Automating Manual Processes

Challenge

Like many large organizations, HGSE relies on business processes that historically have been too small, either in terms of complexity or volume, to justify investing in technology to automate. Modern technologies and vendors offer the promise of automation with a combination of technical simplicity and attractive costs. HGSE was interested in testing those promises using a real-world business process and its own evaluation criteria.

HGSE asked Osprey to help them determine if Microsoft’s PowerApps can efficiently and cost-effectively be used to modernize a cross-departmental business process that is manually performed using a combination of email, spreadsheets, departmental know-how, and informal communications.

The solution must provide a modern User Experience (UX), demonstrate enterprise protection models for sensitive data, ensure data quality, automate workflow and support roles-based entitlements. And it must demonstrate an application architecture that can is manageable and can be extended to automate additional processes.

Solution

An application using Power Apps, SharePoint and Power Automate, all components of the Micosoft’s Power Platform, was planned and developed in just over a few weeks. The application provided answers to help HGSE determine suitability for use as its manual process automation framework.

The application demonstrated that enterprise-strength applications can be built in weeks on a platform that is scalable, centrally managed and can be used to automate other traditionally manual process.

HGSE leadership has the information it needed to confidently begin automating many of its business processed.

Osprey delivered a cross-departmental, workflow-driven application using existing o365 Power Apps licenses in just weeks.
